Attendance
Absence and Attendance
Regular attendance helps students make good progress and enjoy learning. We take a whole school approach to maintaining excellent attendance; it is the joint responsibility of parents / carers, students and staff. Being at school is a very important part of any young person’s life. It enables them to learn and make friends and to gain important qualifications and gain a variety of skills which will prepare them for adult life. School and parent / carers are partners in making this a success. As parents / carers it is your responsibility to make sure that your child makes the most out of their learning opportunities by ensuring a high level of attendance is maintained.
It is important that the Attendance Officer is informed of any absence on each day of the absence. Please note that if no reasons for the absence are received, then it will be marked as unauthorised, and a follow up will be made by our Attendance Administrator to ascertain the reason for the absence. Parents/carers are to ensure that contact numbers and details are current at all times and inform us of any changes. As well as this, there must be a minimum of 2 contacts for each student.
Students who arrive late or who leave the site for any reason during the school day must sign in or out. A letter from a parent must be provided if they are leaving during the day. Wherever possible, medical appointments should be made out of school times. Evidence of medical appointments must be provided at all times. It is vital that no student leaves the site without permission from staff. Students are not permitted to telephone parents to ask to be collected in the event of illness but must always report to sick bay (see below).
The Academy carefully monitors student attendance. When necessary, parents will be notified of lateness and absence.
As this graph shows, there is a clear correlation between good attendance and academic success. Please support us in our efforts to ensure that all students make the most of their time in education.
Our attendance policy can be found on our policies page here.
