"Empowering Minds, Enriching Lives, Elevating Voices"

The English curriculum at CCC is designed to:

  • Inspire a lifelong love of literature – Immerse students in diverse, thought-provoking texts that ignite imagination, curiosity, and a passion for reading.

  • Champion diversity and inclusivity – Celebrate voices from different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, ensuring all students see themselves reflected in the curriculum.

  • Prepare students for academic and professional success – Provide the literacy and analytical skills needed for further education, careers, and lifelong learning.

  • Create literate and articulate students who can engage meaningfully in the written word and communicate effectively as individuals

  • Provide students with a wide range of engaging, challenging and complex texts that broaden their understanding of the world and their investment in “cultural capital”

  • Systematically teach students the fundamentals of grammar so that they are then able to manipulate linguistic structures to communicate both accurately and effectively

  • Explicitly teach and train students in the use of tier 2 vocabulary so that they build an understanding of the nuances of language, a rich and varied active vocabulary that effects success at GCSE but, more importantly, develops their potential to think with accuracy.

  • Empower students through creative writing – Nurture originality and imagination, encouraging students to craft compelling narratives, poetry, and persuasive writing.

  • Encourage debate and discussion – Foster a culture of thoughtful dialogue where students listen, question, and articulate viewpoints with clarity and respect.
